Ask HN: Are you making $1-2k/month from side projects? Share your story

I'm a developer looking to build something on the side that could generate modest monthly income ($1-2k). Not aiming for unicorn status - just sustainable side projects that solve real problems. Would love to hear from those who've succeeded:

What did you build? How long did it take to reach profitable status? How did you find your first users? What would you do differently?

Particularly interested in bootstrapped projects that don't require significant upfront investment. Any insights or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

shorting crypto. not a project, but still good $. Also betting on polymarket. Made some $ there too. I guess having to track platforms and handling transactions could be considered a project. I have systems set up to track this stuff.

Interesting; I suppose you keep an eye out for the dump phase, then quickly short?
