Hi, I'm Jason — a senior full-stack engineer and product builder with 8+ years of experience taking products from idea to production.
I specialize in building and stabilizing MVPs for startups and growing teams. My background spans Rails backend systems, modern React/Next.js frontends, and AI-powered product features. I’ve worked on high-scale platforms including telehealth infrastructure, real-time messaging systems, and data-heavy SaaS products.
A few examples of things I’ve built or worked on recently:
Scalable backend systems handling high-volume real-time events and messaging
AI-powered developer platforms and agent-execution environments
Compliance and data platforms for real-estate sustainability reporting
End-to-end MVPs for startups from architecture to production deployment
I enjoy working with small teams where engineers can own problems end-to-end and ship quickly.
Open to full-stack, backend, or early-stage startup roles where I can help build real products and scale them.
Most recently, I worked with a NYC startup on system design for their data architecture, built production data pipelines in Rust, set up cloud infrastructure with Pulumi, and implemented idempotent automated workflows with Prefect. Before that, I led the implementation of an Azure Databricks lakehouse for a Swiss-German manufacturer, including data governance, CI/CD pipelines, and LLM-powered analytics interfaces.
What I can help with:
Client references available upon request. If you have a data, AI, or infrastructure project in mind or just want to explore possibilities - feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to have a chat!
• Open to Full-Time or Contract positions.
• I provide everything from architecture planning to hands-on implementation and full technical ownership and maintenance.

Résumé/CV: https://smmx.dev
Email: hellohn@smmx.dev
Over 20 years, I’ve led, architected, designed, and programmed across many projects, mostly in small teams (1–5). Most of my work focused on sports and TV, including video recording, archiving, encoding/playback pipelines, creating OTT portals, etc. Experienced in C# (web & desktop), JS/Typescript (Mithril, SolidJS), C++, and recently Rust (network bonding, audio intercom). Primarily worked with GCP (70%), AWS (20%), and Hetzner/OVH (10%). I enjoy building user-friendly, performant GUIs and backends with minimal dependencies, live event broadcast setups, networks, and remote global support. Currently pursuing 20–100 hours/month as a solo consultant, gradually building references. Finishing next version of ioxcom - native ios/android/desktop program for walkie talkie/messanging team communication program.
I enjoy creating projects from start up. I am not specifically good in single thing, but so far managed to make projects work and learn along the way.
Engineering Highlights:
• Built a WCAG-compliant accessibility engine: Developed a full-stack scanning platform from scratch (Node.js/Vue). Solved the challenge of real-time DOM auditing and automated remediation via an embeddable widget. Currently in beta with enterprise clients.
• Architected high-performance scraping infrastructure: Engineered a scalable data-processing service using Puppeteer and MongoDB. Optimized it to handle 1,000+ complex records efficiently, bypassing dynamic rendering hurdles.
• SEO & Performance Engineering: Led the technical SEO and content strategy for a platform reaching 2M+ organic visitors. Focused on Core Web Vitals, SSR optimization (Next.js), and semantic HTML to drive growth.
• Product Ownership: I don't just close tickets; I actively shape the roadmap. I've spent the last year translating business requirements from stakeholder meetings into stable, production-ready features.
Currently seeking roles in Tokyo or remote-first companies. I value TypeScript-heavy codebases, Agile workflows, and teams that treat frontend as a serious engineering discipline.

In general one of the differences from the others that are doing the same thing is that I somewhat technical background due to being involved in few different projects during the years, so I can easily communicate with developers and also see when there is an actual issue in production or if someone is just delaying something or bluffing during interview. I also having managing experience, as I have been managing director of recruitment agency.

If you want to lock me in for a guaranteed 5 years, put the word "Security" in my job title -- that would advance my goal of getting a CISSP -- even if it's just "Datacenter and Security Mess-cleaner-upper".
I'd also relish a justification to spend an hour or more per day on code. That's not "I want to be a programmer"...who wants to make that career change in 2026? But it would be nice if I could actually "do" Bash/C/Perl/Python/Whatever, just a bit, consistently, instead of only when something is messed up and all I get to do is poke and prod until it starts working again.
Hi, I am ZxBlaster9001. My experience is mainly focused around updating the timestamp on copyright messages in website footers. I also permanently ban people for making smug remarks on IRC where I have multiple channels with Q and users respect my authority. Hi there! I'm Vivian. I'm a software engineer with 5 years of experience across full-stack web and desktop application development.
At Intel, I led a small team to ship a new hardware component framework for Platform Designer, an electronic design automation tool used by all of Intel's FPGA customers. One concrete win: improved UI response time by 9.8x by profiling 150+ API methods to find opportunities for optimizations.
At a recent early-stage startup, I refactored custom field creation to be database-driven rather than JSON file-based, so business could create fields directly, without waiting on engineering.
I'm looking for a strong engineering team where I can own problems end-to-end.

Founding CTO at an AI startup — built the whole thing from scratch. 170k+ users, 13 microservices, shipped across web, iOS, Android, and desktop. I write code every day and own systems end-to-end from scoping through production.
Day-to-day: Python (FastAPI, Django), TypeScript (React, Next.js, Node), PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, AWS. Built multi-agent pipelines with LangGraph, agentic RAG, structured outputs, production LLM observability. Thousands of agent calls running daily. Also built real-time voice features (STT/TTS streaming) and quantitative ML systems — XGBoost classifiers on 232k bars across 53 assets for volatility regime detection.
Previously co-founded and shipped two other products (event ticketing platform, DeFi protocol). Comfortable with ambiguity, fast iteration, and working directly with customers. I use AI tools heavily to ship (Claude Code, Cursor) but understand what's happening under the hood.
Looking for: Forward-Deployed Engineer, AI/Full-Stack Engineer, Staff/Principal Engineer roles at companies that ship fast and give real ownership. Strong preference for remote. Open to onsite in SF or NYC for the right opportunity.

Physicist and problem-solver with an M.Sc. in Planetary Sciences (1.3, FU Berlin) and a B.Sc. in Physics (1.9, Heidelberg). My background spans scientific computing, geospatial data analysis, time series analysis, and machine learning built over 6+ years of research across FU Berlin, DLR, and Heidelberg's Landessternwarte.
Currently working as an IT process developer at a logistics company, where I build internal tooling (JavaScript/Svelte), automate workflows with Power Automate, and create Power BI dashboards bridging the gap between science and practical software.
I pick up new domains quickly and enjoy tackling messy real-world problems. My background in physics, mathematics, and geoscience means I can read scientific literature and serve as a natural bridge between scientists and software engineers, speaking both languages fluently.
Open to full-time or contract positions.

Senior Product Manager / Product Lead with 10+ years shipping products from 0 to 1. I use AI tooling daily as my actual workflow - Claude Code, agentic frameworks - to prototype, automate research, and build internal tools. At Trendle I introduced AI-first dev practices across the team: developers ship with AI agents, cycle times dropped. I also write code (TypeScript, SQL) to validate ideas before committing eng resources.
Shipped across prediction markets ($500K volume), generative art ($4M in sales during bear market), multiplayer gaming (10K MAU), and ecommerce. Co-founded a digital agency serving 20+ VC clients. Comfortable owning product end to end - strategy, specs with API contracts, data pipelines, user research, go-to-market.
Looking for: Senior PM, Product Lead, or Head of Product roles. AI-native companies, YC startups, or teams that value AI-first development. Full-time or contract.

I have 14 years' experience in designing web and mobile applications end-to-end. I am very strong in both UX and UI, and I specialize in founding design at startups where I own everything design.
I work with the founders, product managers and engineers, juggling usability, UI visuals, tight time-lines, and engineering constraints to take products from 0 to 1. I'm very comfortable doing things that don't scale to launch the MVP, and also establishing systems and workflows to grow the product.
I also take care of landing pages, brand identities, and marketing materials.

I'm a technologist turned product manager and into product leadership. Most of my career has been leading product teams in complex B2B applied ML/AI and "big data" products. Hi HN, I’m Rodrigo. I’m a software engineer working at the intersection of applied ML and scalable systems. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with solving the "context window" problem through graph-based knowledge representations. My recent work focuses on treating graphs not just as data stores, but as a method for information compression and long-term memory permanence in AI agents. I develop pipelines that integrate LLMs with structured memory to allow for more efficient knowledge generalization and recall.
Key areas of expertise:
1. AI Memory Architectures: Building persistent, graph-oriented systems for reasoning and long-term retrieval.
2. ML Systems Engineering: Developing TTS systems, semantic search tools, and RAG pipelines that go beyond simple vector lookups.
3. Full-Stack Foundations: Bridging the gap between a PyTorch model and a production-ready Svelte/React interface, backed by robust Linux/Postgres infrastructure.
I’m looking for a role where I can contribute to the "Next Step" of LLM integration—moving past simple chat interfaces toward systems with true persistent memory and structured reasoning.

Like this Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work, but I am open to work on any interesting project. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so I am in the process to relocate to Africa.
I have more than a decade of experience running a company, doing software development, support and training and mentoring adults and students, as well as working on educational projects, and I am willing to take on a mixture of roles as needed to support a project.
I value good teamwork over fancy tech, and I don't shy away from working on legacy code. I am primarily motivated by solving problems, so let me help you solve your problems.
I am open to work for a company anywhere as long as the work can be done fully remote from Africa.
While I could find a job elsewhere I believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location I am serving. Whether it is through direct contact with clients and users or just by being part of a local community and learning about the reality of living there.
In addition, I want to use some of my income to hire local interns and junior developers and train them in order to pass on my experience. I also sponsor children that otherwise can't afford to go to school (see my website). If you want to support this, I would love to work with you. Also if you are interested in hiring African developers yourself. I can help you build up a team for you.
- In my current role, I've worked on a wide range of projects including backend systems, mobile applications, data pipelines and predictive modeling, and many production applications built around Ethereum.
- For the past two years I've also been doing ML research focused on mechanistic interpretability and LLM evaluations.
- Open to general SWE, ML/AI engineering, or anything in between. Full-time or contract both work for me. My contact info is on the resume site.

I am a problem solver, and my main tools are Python and Postgres, though my programming approach is informed by Lisp (many years of Emacs contributions), Prolog (the best kind of mind-bending) and OCaml (which I wish I was writing instead of Python).
I would like to be solving real-world problems: energy, logistics, communications, governance, trash removal. It's amazing what you can find out if you talk to people about their problems, and its amazing what you can solve with a concoction of fairly straightforward data science, ML, calculus, signal processing, and Rube Goldberg machines.

Hi, I'm looking for roles in data engineering, ML, and scientific computing. Interested in geospatial, environmental, agtech, and remote sensing/space work, but open to other domains.
I started my career administering an HPC cluster used to analyze large brain imaging datasets for psychiatric research at a university hospital. I completed my MS in Ecology with a computational focus, following a BS in Plant Sciences from Cornell. I'm currently building tools for the National Park Service and other public land management agencies to help make sense of complex environmental data. I recently architected and deployed a wildfire danger forecasting pipeline across 173M acres on AWS. Good at solving complex problems with limited resources. I'm an advocate of FOSS tools and I'm looking to join a team with other like-minded engineers.

Senior / Staff-level product engineer with ~12 years of experience building and shipping production software. Strong frontend focus with deep full-stack experience. I’ve led zero-to-one builds, shipped high-reliability systems, real-time collaborative tools, and large-scale search (1.6M+ searches/month). Comfortable owning architecture, product, UI/UX, and execution end-to-end.
Looking for Senior, Staff, Principal, or Founding Engineer roles at product-driven teams that value team health, self-starters, and high quality work.
Relocation: Case-by-case
I'm a CTO, expert engineer, and data professional interested in team-building, consulting and architecting data pipelines. At Edmunds.com, I worked on a fairly successful ad-tech product and my team bootstrapped a data pipeline using Spark, Databricks, and microservices built with Java, Python, and Scala.
At ATTN:, I re-built an ETL Kubernetes stack, including data loaders and extractors that handle >10,000 API payload extractions daily. I created SOPs for managing data interoperability with Facebook Marketing, Facebook Graph, Instagram Graph, Google DFP, Salesforce, etc.
More recently, I was the CTO and co-founder of a gaming startup. We raised over $6M and I was in charge of building out a team of over a dozen remote engineers and designers, with a breadth of experience ranging from Citibank, to Goldman Sachs, to Microsoft. I moved on, but retain significant equity and a board seat.
I am also a minority owner of a coffee shop in northern Spain. That I'm a top-tier developer goes without saying. I'm interested in flexing my consulting muscle and can help with best practices, architecture, and hiring.
Would love to connect even if it's just for networking!

Hello! I'm an experienced systems administrator and software engineer, with primary experience in the web hosting space and lots of secondary experience poking around low level hardware. I took a sabbatical to do NES development and start my own business, and now I'm re-entering the workforce. (The business is doing fine, but my first game isn't ready to sell just yet.) It looks like lots of AI stuff happened while I was out!
I love deep technical dives. My professional background favors web hosting with an emphasis on docker and kubernetes, but I'm open to explore. I've worked in customer facing technical support roles, and I do rather miss the human interactions. I'm comfortable on most Linux systems, with strong RedHat and SUSE experience in particular.
I've found that I rather enjoy working with assembly languages. I've picked up enough Verilog to simulate custom cartridge hardware (via FPGA) and do lightweight audio synthesis. If I return to college, it'll be to pursue an Electrical Engineering degree. For now, it remains a delightful fun hobby.

Full-stack engineer turned engineering leader, 13+ years building and scaling web platforms. Most recently modernized a biodiversity monitoring platform at Helmholtz (UFZ) — consolidated scattered repos into a monorepo, built the entire CI/CD pipeline, designed Helm umbrella charts, and deployed observability from zero. Before that, led backend and frontend teams (7 engineers) at a location-based mobile startup — designed the GraphQL architecture from scratch, single-handedly executed the AWS EKS migration, and built the push notification system. I'm a motivated final year CS student who will be ready for full time employment in 07/2026 so I'm seeking junior/graduate level roles that revolve around backend stuff and where I can learn a lot.
My experience includes 4 internships and multiple side projects.
I started programming on my own at the age of 15. Since then, I have explored multiple areas, including mobile app development (native and Flutter), web development (React, Next.js, Vue), QA, MLOps, and AI/ML. During this exploration phase, I realized that I want to focus my career on backend development.
You can check out my resume and GitHub (link included in the resume) for a complete overview of my experience and side projects.
Most of my coding experience is in Java and Python. I also really enjoy Kotlin and I am currently learning Go (Golang) by building a simple VPN as a side project. I prefer working with strongly typed languages. I don’t have much experience with Rust or C++ but I’m eager to learn.

I have almost 20 years of experience in software development from C to shining C (sharp). Golang is my favorite for its simplicity. Typescript is a daily driver. Python for those ML things, though I am not an expert at ML, I am good at Python. Also since I ran cloud infrastructure I know how to scale, observe, and measure. I'm a Full-Stack Developer with 5+ years of experience building production web applications. Currently at a startup in Lima where I've worked across the full stack — from NestJS microservices and real-time WebSocket systems to React/Next.js frontends, serving up to 5,000 concurrent users.
Some things I've built: a digital wallet ecosystem (3 frontends + 3 microservices), a tournament platform with live leaderboards, a multi-platform soccer analytics app with Redis-optimized queries, and CMS-driven marketing pages with SSR. I've also built an Android overlay app for Japanese manga translation using Google ML Kit OCR and the Gemini API — more of a personal project, but it shows I can work outside the browser too.
I have a B.Sc. in Informatics Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
Looking for a remote full-stack or backend-leaning role at a product company. Open to async-first teams across any timezone. Happy to do a trial project.

I’m a C++ Software Engineer with 5 years of experience in the Gamedev industry, transitioning into high-performance backend, systems engineering, or HFT. I specialize in creating software where every microsecond matters.
To showcase my networking and architecture skills, I built and maintain a full-stack C++ communicator from scratch (comm.sqrll.net).
I'm looking for a team where performance is a core feature, not an afterthought, and where GitHub contributions speak louder than ATS keywords.
I run a consulting company (atomweight.io), and have provided infosec, devops, and software engineering services to a variety of clients. I am open to both full-time and contract engagements.
I don't particularly enjoy coasting or clocking out at 5pm (mostly since I'm a night owl), so I'm looking for opportunities where I can move fast, build, ship fast, contribute the most value, and grow. If my skills and experience seem like a good fit for your needs, please reach out!

Greetings! I am looking for my break to get into the contemporary software development scene, after having previously developed software (primarily Windows utilities) on my own and having dabbled in various technologies. This break will most likely take the form of a tech support, documentation, or QA role for a software development team. An entry-level developer position would be even better, from a company that will have a bit of patience as I rapidly level up to their contemporary technology of choice.
I like both the aesthetic, UI, and social challenges of frontend development as well as the complex, very technical puzzles involved in backend development. It is very easy for me to be fascinated by cool technologies, both old and new.
Another appealing option for me would be to be involved with AI model training and evaluation.
I've had several years experience working remotely with international teams, though in primarily non-technical roles.
I look forward to making first contact with your world!

Over ten years at seed-stage startups.
I came up through design, not CS. That shaped how I think about software and the people who use it.
Most recently I was Engineering Manager and Technical Product Owner at Skribble (Switzerland, remote). Setting architecture direction, owning the roadmap, and staying hands-on with the team building the core product.
Before that I was the first Berlin hire at super.AI in 2018, where I built their customer-facing data labeling platform.
On the side I'm building a hardware/software ecosystem around the electric bass: real-time DSP, OpenCV, MCU-driven MIDI interfaces, DevEx.

Python/Django specialist looking for projects bridging tech and physical world. Currently available for freelance work. I bring 5+ years building production software—from co-founding a legal tech startup where I wore every hat from Linux sysadmin to team lead, to a recent stint at Louis Vuitton on JS/TypeScript. Comfortable across the stack, with particular depth in data pipelines, ML/computer vision, and making things work reliably at scale. M.S. in Computer Science (computer vision) from Sorbonne, dual B.S. in Math & CS, plus a foundation year in applied arts. This mix shows up in my work—I care about both what's under the hood and what users actually see.
I'm quite good with people and enjoy being part of a team. Looking for interesting projects at the intersection of software and visual/creative domains, or anything hardware / real world related -- but honestly, I enjoy hard problems wherever they live.
Open to contracts, part-time collaborations, or interesting project-based work. Based in Paris, remote-friendly.
Don't hesitate to get in touch. ;-)
Regards.

You have a Web/Mobile app that's a mess? That needs some love and a responsible maintainer? Or need to migrate an old codebase to something more modern? A web app that's not responsive for a mobile screen and needs some optimizations?
Where other programmers find enjoyment in working with new shiny infra/frameworks/tech stacks I find enjoyment and purpose on maintaning stuff, taking care of software that powers current systems and serve real users. No matter how old the tech stack is, today more than ever it is crucial to make software reliable and stable. I maintained and migrated many systems over the years, doing it gradually over short or longer time periods depending on the task, with an eye to quality and with the help of tests.
I’m an experienced remote worker, based in the EU. I over communicate and willing to build trust. I’m a contractor and I already have some gigs, I’m currently available for ~20hrs/week at 35/40€/hr depending on the project.
A note on AI coding: I know how to best leverage these tools in assisting me BUT I’m the solely responsible for the code I push so you won’t get any slop or vide coded stuff from me. I know when to use these tools, when not and for what.

Hi, I'm Michael Geary. I've programmed in many languages and environments over the years. Some of my current interests are:
• Developer experience. I love helping my fellow developers solve problems, and building tools to make their jobs easier and more enjoyable.
• Aviation and geographic data. For example, airspace and obstacle data importers for Wing; election results and voter information maps for Google; many interactive maps for other companies.
• Hardware interfacing. In a way, I am a "full stack" developer, but my stack may involve a front end to a piece of hardware rather than the cloud. I first got into programming via ham radio, so RF hardware remains an interest.
• Designing and building APIs. Too often an API is designed by exposing the internals of whatever system provides the API. My philosophy is the opposite: start with the apps. I like to build a series of sample apps before starting on the API. This way I can imagine what API will make those apps and others like them easy to build.
• Talk with users! I don't like to sit in a back room cranking out code. I want to make sure it's the right code for what my users need, and that it's easy to maintain and improve as we learn more about what they want.
Open to full time or contract.
I look forward to talking with you!

Backend, platform, and infra engineer — 17 years across startups, SaaS, enterprise, non-profit, and a game studio.
Highlights:
- Equinix Metal: Platform engineering across 50+ global bare-metal Kubernetes clusters — drove log vendor migration and rollout of internal DNS recursors (pdns-recursor) fleet-wide
- Red Hat: Senior dev on Quay.io (~1B requests/month), led Python 2→3 migration, drove Kubernetes operator from prototype to shipping product
- Clockwork Labs: Owned infrastructure for SpacetimeDB and supported BitCraft playtests — multiplayer game backend built on WASM + database
- The Water Institute (FloodID): Owned infra for hurricane flood prediction — converted AWS from ClickOps to declarative Terraform, HPC simulations with post-processing in Kubernetes
- Rackspace: Maintained internal tooling and dashboards across 10-15 applications — including greenfield coordination tooling used for a large-scale datacenter consolidation project
- Cox Media Group: Maintained Django CMS serving 50+ newspapers/radio stations/TV channels, led migration from on-premise to AWS
Mostly focused on backend development, internal tools, automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure. Comfortable across the full stack including the underlying platform. Recently interested in Rust again and currently using it at a high-level (Axum, SQLx, Clap, Reqwest, Bevy) on side projects.
Available for short-term or part-time engagements. Happy to augment a team or own a piece of the stack. Looking to build long-term relationships through good work.

SEEKING FREELANCE WORK | UX/UI & web design
I help startups with the UX/UI and web design of their products. This includes web apps, websites, landing pages, copywriting, and I can assist with frontend development where needed. My background of launching my own products and being a full stack developer helps me create practical designs that balance usability, aesthetics, development effort, and performance. I work to fixed price quotes for self-contained projects.
---
The best live example of my work is Checkbot (https://checkbot.io/), a browser extension that tests websites for SEO/speed/security problems. The entire project is my own work including coding the extension itself, UX/UI design, website design (the homepage is optimised to load in 0.7 seconds, 0.3MB data transferred), marketing, website copy, and website articles on web best practices.
[ Rated 4.9/5, 80K+ active users, 100s of paying subscribers ]

I have 10+ years of experience, including a PhD in software verification and 5+ years working for myself helping over 25 companies including Just Eat, Triumph Motorcycles and Fogbender (YC W22). See my website for testimonials, portfolio and more: https://seanw.org
Note: For large projects, my partner usually assists me in the background (I’m working on starting a design studio with her in the future)

I'm a data scientist with over 20 years of experience specializing in consulting and fractional leadership. I do the data science that AI's can't do. I thrive on gnarly problems where standard off-the-shelf solutions fall short, and recently where Ai just can't complete the task even if walked through the problem. My track record includes saving a German automaker from lemon law recalls and helping a major cloud vendor predict server failures to enable load shedding.
I've tackled a wide range of challenges across various industries, including oil reservoir and well engineering forecasting, automotive part failure prediction, and shipping piracy risk to route ships away from danger. My technical work extends to realtime routing (CVRP-PD-TW) for on-demand delivery, legal entity and contract term extraction, and wound identification with tissue classification. I also work with the current wave of LLMs and agents, and make them do magic.
I've worked with the standard stacks you’d expect: Python, PyTorch, Spark/Ray, AWS, Agentic engineering, etc. But I believe the solution must be driven by the problem, not the tools. I bring years of experience helping companies plan, prototype, and productionize sane data science solutions.
Please reach out if you have a difficult problem to solve. I do love stuff in physical meat-space.
NB: Please do not contact me if you are working on ads, gambling, or "enshittification". I prefer to sleep at night.

I have 15 years of experience in startup software development and DevOps across web apps, cloud, and Linux networking. 10 years of leadership in teams of up to 7 people. I have built infrastructure using Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Digital Ocean, and Linode.
Here are a sample of my accomplishments:
* Built a platform for hosting web apps using Kubernetes at a major cloud provider and taught engineers to operate and improve it. Introduced Terraform, Helm, and incident management processes. It operates in 4 regions and has about 250 total CPUs.
* Led a B2B SaaS company through their first SOC 2 Type II audit.
* Created an application CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins and Gitlab, resulting in a DORA performance score of 8.0 (above average in all scores according to dora.dev)
* Published and maintained the community Apt package for Helm, the Kubernetes package manager, which is downloaded more than 200,000 times per month.
* Created a system to control calls in Asterisk with AI-trained voice commands ("hey asterisk, dial extension 1") https://github.com/mattfox/asterisk-voice-control

Hello!
I'm a software developer who's got an eye for performant and intuitive systems. I've worked at companies in the defense, finance, ecommerce, SaaS and security space. Most recently, I worked on building https://merrilin.ai, and I've written about this here: https://tech.stonecharioteer.com/posts/2026/merrilin/
I've also hit the HN frontpage 4 times last year, writing articles about learning Ruby and its internals.
I'm the guy you hire when you want performant code, something that's scalable in this world of vibe-coded stuff. I'm also excellent at writing deeply technical blog articles and have given talks at PyCon India, RootConf and the Bengaluru Python meetup group BangPypers. I'm also notorious for reading the PostgreSQL documentation on livestream.

About: Hey, I’m Marciano. I’m a designer, coder, prototyper, and creative technologist, or whatever box you wanna throw me in. I generally design and build products end-to-end, from first concept and interface design to working production code. I have multiple years of experience designing and shipping apps, platforms, internal tools, and consumer-facing products.
This year (2026) I’m exploring new directions (my own apps), and I would be very happy to spend about 16 hours per week contributing to something interesting, fun and important in the spaces of health, sustainability or community (I know, that's broad).
I work fast, think in systems, and care deeply about clarity, quality, and usability. I am, in general, just a nerd who genuinely loves building things that make sense and actually get used. Cheerios <3
They operate fluently across user research, synthesis, and interaction design — but more importantly, they are disciplined about ensuring the team is solving the right problem before optimizing the solution. Strong conviction around first-principles framing, epistemic rigor, and problem selection as leverage.
Core strengths:
- Structured discovery and incisive problem definition - Translating ambiguous signals into coherent product theses - Systems-level thinking across UX, engineering, and business constraints - Driving execution with clarity, precision, and accountability
A thinker who prizes discernment over velocity and correctness over noise.
If your team values intellectual honesty, strategic acuity, and taste, I’m happy to make an introduction.

I am a seasoned (>15 years experience) full-stack staff-level software engineer specializing in the backend, systems architecture, AI, platform engineering, internal tools, prototyping, and data engineering. In addition to strong programming and architectural skills, I'm a force multiplier for any team in either role through the three T's -- teaching, talking, and tooling. I also hold a US patent in the AI space.
In the past, I've taught a number of scientists and students to code in python; I've led and managed a number of high-impact engineering teams of up to 12; and pioneered a number of no- and low-code solutions for stream processing, data model and query generation, form building, workflow systems, and front-end construction for a variety of industries, including those with strong regulatory requirements and complex business rules such as healthcare and fintech. >10% of all medicare applications and millions of individuals currently flow through pioneering no-code systems I conceived and built and have ran in production for over a decade.
More recently, I've built a no-code automated form-filler; a no-code web scraper (and an AI for generating such scrapers from a spec and 1-3 example urls from a page); and a workflow engine for coordinating LLMs and other generative AI processes, and on top of this a platform for both minimizing hallucinations and working with documents that are far too large for existing context window inputs or outputs using a novel, patented process that I invented; and applied these tools to various contracted projects requiring analysis and and cross-checking of information and other forms of integrity across textual and video/audio corpus data in a variety of domains (fiction and non-fiction).
I am also an improvisational pianist, published poet, and I've created novel algorithms and tools for studying and composing both music and poetry, which I have given a talk on at a recent functional programming conference.
I have extensive experience working for and running startups, software consulting shops, with some mid-sized company engineering experience as well; these give me a unique insight into speaking with customers and internal stake-holders, translating between engineering and other departments, gathering requirements, aligning stake-holders across departments on a vision and attainable timeline, and architecting/building/taking ownership over significant internal and customer-facing areas of responsibility.
If any of the above seems like a match for you and your organization or project, don't hesitate to reach out. I am available for both full-time positions and short- and long-term contracts.

I've been using Go as my primary language for the last nine years, although I don't overly care about the specific language and have experience with a wide variety of tools and languages such as Python, Ruby, PHP, C, JavaScript, Lua, and probably some more. While I've mainly focused on backend in the last few years, I also have written plenty of frontend code over the years, from the "pre-jQuery" days to VueJS.
In the last few years I mainly focused on GoatCounter (https://www.goatcounter.com) with the occasional contract job, but I'm keen to start working on something new for the longer term.
I've got quite a bit of code on my GitHub, so you can take a look at that if you want: https://github.com/arp242

Full-stack JavaScript-focused engineer/entrepreneur with lots of experience in building scalable single page apps in different frameworks, web3, multiplayer web games, building transformers and other networks, all sorts of things. Product-oriented, executive and leadership experience, comfortable in both autonomous and collaborative settings, capable Linux sysadmin. I know how to ship, end to end.
I've focused for several years now on agentic and generative work such as simulating networked LLM-augmented embodied agents, interface research, too much to list here but always happy to talk more over email. While the rest of the industry is just starting to latch onto agentic systems, I can offer years of experience, product insight and leadership.
Available for consulting, startups, projects, anything web or agentic.
