Ask HN: How to build an audience as a software engineer?

I am a software engineer, and I have recently started writing more publicly about Python, backend systems, frameworks, and things I have learned while building open-source projects.

The problem I am trying to figure out is distribution.

I am building things, writing in public, but publishing them into the void, is not creating an audience of any kind. For someone who have successfully built an audience around their technical work:

- Which platforms have actually worked? X or LinkedIn or Youtube? - What would you do if you were starting today?

X, I managed to cross 10k followers by sharing my learning and building in public. If I had to start again I would record myself.

And would you share those recordings on YT or X itself?

Why not Mastodon? They said that X is full of bots and it has the biggest net negative to the platform: Elon.
